It's time for CQ to honour
the "Mother of the Anzacs"

Annie Wheeler was a local woman who spent the whole of World War I in London keeping track of all the Central Queensland soldiers. She made sure they received packages from home, kept their families updated, made sure they received the medical care they needed and even supported them financially. Some called her "the mother of the Anzacs" and after the war she returned to a hero's welcome in Rockhampton, with more than 5,000 locals turning out the greet her.
A century on and her story has been all but forgotten, but I believe it embodies the CQ spirit of community and needs to be remembered. That's why I support efforts to erect a statue or bust of her in Rockhampton. If you agree, please sign out petition below:
